Are Inspiring Publications Really Worth Applying? | Classic Book Info

Everyone knows the fact that life is not really a bed of rose bushes. In some cases we could need others to help us to make it through these difficult times, at other times, we might have to fight our battles alone. If you choose to hold it with you, a great self help book can always be considered a fantastic companion to help you proceed along side path called daily life. Not just in the course of stressed times, but yet anytime we?d like some inspiration, just a little nudge in the correct path, determination to start an activity, some courage to accomplish something new, or simply unwind and relax our daily stress, a self help booklet can be a great little accessory which you constantly can hold along with you.

First off, don?t assume all self help books are created equal. Each and every self help guide is created or authored along with a goal in mind. Some will help you work on your confidence levels or on your self esteem. Some are ideal for a one-time motivation, yet others require multiple readings to get their complete advantage. Some move you, others zap you awake and make you change the way you view things or even think your thoughts.

But most of them possess something in common ? they try to make you more aware of your self as being a human being. That?s all ? the first and foremost thing a self help publication does, in one sentence, is to make you much more conscious of your identity. Simply because becoming more self aware and even understanding exactly where we are, will be the required initial step to further improve yourself or make development from that point onward.

Obviously, it is important to keep in mind that self-help books aren?t a cure for all of life?s issues. If it does, and it also assists you to figure out what you must do, or makes you feel much better upon reading through it, this affordable investment has paid itself again and again! And you get the pleasure of finding the solution to your trouble, or at best getting a road to it, all on your own, without needing to talk about your difficulties with someone else.

Try self-help books. Discover exactly what other people think about the problems you are facing. Many an author is probably somebody who has confronted similar problems in his or her life, and now have put their life experiences and points of views in the form of a publication.

You never know, the next self-help book you read may just change your life! Best Self Help Books

TuneUp Takes On Shazam With Free (And Ad-Free) Mobile Music ID App

03_listeningTuneUp, the service that cleans up your iTunes or Windows Media music collection, is moving into mobile from an unexpected angle. Unlike the TuneUp iTunes and Windows Media plugins, the main feature of the new iPhone app isn't its ability to correct song titles and supply missing album artwork. Instead, you can activate the app when you're listening to music that you don't recognize, then it will identify the song based on the audio. (You can also look up the lyrics, and there's a link to download the song from iTunes.) In other words, yes, the experience is pretty similar to Shazam and SoundHound.

(AP) ? Anti-government protesters flooded a main highway in a march stretching for miles and security forces fired tear gas in breakaway clashes Friday as Bahrain's leaders struggled to contain opposition anger while under the world's spotlight as the island nation hosts the Formula One Grand Prix.

The government allowed the massive demonstration in an apparent bid to avoid the hit-and-run street battles that are the hallmark of the Gulf nation's 14-month uprising ? and an embarrassing spectacle for Bahrain's Western-backed rulers as F1 teams prepare for Sunday's race.

But violence flared as small groups in the march peeled away from the route to challenge riot police, who answered with volleys of tear gas and stun grenades. Some protesters sought refuge in a mall and nearby shops about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the Formula One track, where practice runs took place and Bahrain's crown prince vowed the country's premier international event would go ahead.

Last year, a wave of anti-government protests by the island's Shiite majority and a crackdown by the Sunni rulers forced organizers to cancel the 2011 Bahrain GP. At least 50 people have been killed since the start of Bahrain's uprising ? the longest-running in the Arab Spring ? which seeks a greater political voice for Shiites and to weaken the near monopoly of the Sunni dynasty that has ruled for more than 200 years.

"We demand democracy" and "Down, Down Hamad," chanted some of the tens of thousands of opposition supporters in reference to King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, as they massed on the main highway leading out of the capital, Manama. Bahrain's monarchy is the main backer of the F1 race, and the crown prince owns rights to the event.

Hours before the march, Bahrain's most senior Shiite cleric, Sheik Isa Qassim, delivered a strongly worded sermon that denounced authorities for making dozens of arrests of suspected dissidents in recent weeks. He called the intensified crackdowns before the F1 event "as if we are entering a war."

Bahrain's rulers lobbied hard to stage this year's Grand Prix as part of attempts to portray stability in the strategic kingdom, which is home to the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet. On the opposite side, rights groups and others campaigned to keep the race away, citing the relentless pressures by security forces and the imprisonment of opposition figures ? including a Shiite political activist on a more than a two-month-long hunger strike.

The U.S.-based group Physicians for Human Rights, also said it was concerned about the near daily use of tear gas in Bahrain, including in crowded urban areas and homes, and its possible long-term health consequences, including increased rates of miscarriages and birth defects.

"Despite promises of reform since our investigation into the Kingdom last year, the Government's excessive use of force has only increased," said the group's deputy director, Richard Sollom.

The hacking collective Anonymous, meanwhile, claimed responsibility for a denial-of-service attack on the official Formula One website in protest over the running of the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend. Such web attacks work by overwhelming a site with bogus traffic.

Shiites account for about 70 percent of Bahrain's population of just over half a million people, but claim they face widespread discrimination and lack opportunities granted to the Sunni minority. The country's leaders have offered some reforms, but the opposition says they fall short of Shiite demands for a greater voice in the country's affairs and an elected government.

The unrest has put Washington into an awkward position. U.S. officials have called for efforts to reopen political dialogue in Bahrain, but are careful not to press too hard against the nation's leadership and possibly jeopardize its important military ties.

In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland expressed the Obama administration's concern about "the increase in violence in Bahrain, especially leading up to the Formula 1 race."

"These are unproductive, unhelpful acts in building the kind of meaningful trust and reconciliation that is needed in Bahrain," Nuland told reporters. "We're calling for, again, Bahraini government respect for universal human rights and demonstrators' restraint in ensuring that they are peaceful."

Bahrian's crown prince, Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, visited the track Friday and rejected any suggestion that the race should be scrapped.

"I think canceling the race just empowers extremists," he said. "For those of us trying to navigate a way out of this political problem, having the race allows us ... to celebrate our nation as an idea that is positive, not one that is divisive."

Clashes take place nearly every day with demonstrators hurling firebombs and riot police responding with tear gas and sometimes firing birdshot. The main Shiite political group, Al Wefaq, says at least 50 people have been injured in the past two days when security forces fired pellets to disperse protesters.

Additional security forces deployed this week, setting up checkpoints Friday on roads leading to the Bahrain International Circuit and increasing their presence across Manama.

The rulers have depicted the race ? expected to draw a worldwide TV audience of about 100 million in 187 countries ? as an event that will put the divided society on the path of reconciliation.

"I genuinely believe this race is a force for good, it unites many people from many different religious backgrounds, sects and ethnicities," said the crown prince.

In the past weeks, however, much of the protesters' anger has been directed at the crown prince, who is also the commander of the kingdom's armed forces, which the opposition supporters say have been enforcing the crackdown.

Last year, Salman was tasked to lead a national dialogue aimed at reconciliation between Shiite and Sunnis. The talks broke down without any compromise and have not yet resumed.

In Iraq, hard-line Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, denounced Bahrain for staging the grand prix while "blood is being shed" on the island. Al-Sadr also condemned the F1 teams for racing, saying their presence in Bahrain gives "support for injustices and the killings."

As a majority Shiite country, Iraq has backed Bahrain's Shiite-led protests.

Robert Pattinson's 'Cosmopolis' Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Preview shows that 'Twilight' actor is far from Forks in new David Cronenberg flick.
By Fallon Prinzivalli

Photo: Alfama Films

One of Robert Pattinson's best career moves was accepting the role of Eric Packer in "Cosmopolis."

It's yet another shift away from the sparkly vampire who dazzles those around him. The role is gritty, sexy and no doubt allowed Pattinson to show off his acting chops. Typecast no more, critics. The "Twilight" actor is getting as far away from Forks as possible.

The David Cronenberg film follows Packer in a futuristic, but not too far off, New York City. As he's chauffeured through Manhattan on his way to get a haircut, he watches as everything falls apart around him. His empire decreases every second, riots take place on the city streets and he figure out clues that lead him to the shocking secret of his impending assassination.

The trailer is chock-full of intense moments, and we've put together the five key scenes.

The Office
As Pattinson's female co-star asks, "Where is your office?" we see a long stretch limo. The vehicle poses as the setting for much of the film with Packer conducting his business and parties in the back. When she continues with "what do you do exactly?" we see a shot of him looking like James Bond in some shades on the sidewalk. This opening scene sets the tone for Packer's character and his downfall — a billionaire who slowly loses control of the world around him.

Rats
As different characters enter and exit his limo, the film's story unfolds. As a passerby on the street holds a dead rat up to his window, one of the women inside with Packer tells him, "This is a protest against the future." While it's unclear what the protest is about, as the trailer continues rats are everywhere. More and more protesters wave them around the streets, one man throws them across a diner and one protester even has a giant rat head on his body. We're not sure what it means, but knowing Cronenberg, it most likely deals with symbolism of America's future.

"I Smell Sex All Over You"
If "Twilight" fans haven't yet realized this role is far from their beloved sparkly vampire, they do now. A smug look crosses the usually awkward actor's face after one of his conquests comments, "I smell sex all over you." Packer shrugs. He knows. Throughout the rest of the trailer, we see small clips of various sexual encounters — including one half-naked girl who points a laser gun at his chest.

Grab a Gun
Pattinson's no stranger to action. He's torn evil vampires apart, taken a beating in "Remember Me" and escaped a stampede of wild animals in "Water for Elephants." But in "Cosmopolis," we finally get to see the actor pack some heat. In one scene, Packer kicks open a door and pulls a gun on a person in the room. He's taking back control of a day that started out with a hair appointment and is ending with the wildest ride of his life.

Maybe the Gun Wasn't a Good Idea
There's an array of fast clips at the end, all flashing by in a sequence that could give anyone with epilepsy a seizure. But the one that immediately caught our attention has Pattinson shooting a bullet through his own hand. Yikes. Our palms began aching just watching it. From the looks of this trailer, we probably haven't even seen the worst of it yet.

"Cosmopolis" is scheduled to hit theaters later this year.

Check out everything we've got on "Cosmopolis."

squarePayments company Square is raising another major round of funding, but is targeting institutional investors first because of the enormous size of the round, we hear from sources. In addition, we are also hearing that the company is raising around $250 million, which was originally reported in the New York Times. We hear Dorsey wrapped up the 10-day trip to the East Coast to conduct the raise.

NAB 2012 wrap-up

http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/19/nab-2012-wrap-up/

"That's a wrap!" Finally, an appropriate use for that industry cliché, since, ya know, we really are at a motion picture / television conference. As our first trip to the National Association of Broadcasters' annual event in Las Vegas fires its last frame, we're going to roll to the credits, honoring all those products that enabled us to justify spending a week in Sin City on the company dime. From Canon's 4K-capable 1D C (that'll sadly run you far more than $4k) to RED's Dragon sensor upgrade set to render "obsolescence obsolete," there's plenty to look forward to in the world of cinematography. We also happened upon a few consumer-facing gadgets, including Ceton's new DVR companion apps for Android and iOS, that Lenscaster SLR lens mount for iPad and a new Dolby 3D standard that could help propel glasses-free 3D into mass production. That's but a small sampling of the gadgets at NAB 2012, however, so jump past the break for all our hands-ons from the show.

Sprint and LG launch Optimus Elite: entry-level specifications, planet-saving hopes

The successor to 2010's Optimus S, LG's readied another low-middleweight smartphone. Main features on the Optimus Elite include Android 2,3, a 3.5-inch screen, an 800MHz processor, NFC and a five-megapixel camera. So there's nothing particularly thrilling, but 50GB of free storage from Box could sweeten the deal for some. Eco-friendly nods include sustainable build materials, with 50 percent made from recycled plastic, with the hazardous likes of mercury, PVC and halogens also nixed from the device. Like other Sprint-LG team-ups toting green credentials, the charger ekes out minimal power when not charging the phone. Planeteers can pick up the Optimus Elite online -- in "Titan" silver and white -- from April 22, priced at $30 on a two-year contract. Sprint will also hand over a $50 reward card for your troubles and LG says the Optimus Elite will eventually arrive, at least in silver, on Virgin Mobile too. For a few more details, you can catch LG and Sprint emoting over Mother Earth in the press release below.

Around 140,000 Apple machines still infected with Flashback malware, says Symantec

By now, we're all quite familiar with the Java-driven trojan that's affected thousands of Apple's rigs, and while the numbers seem to have drastically dropped since the first Cupertino fix, there's still a plethora of machines carrying the bug. According to Symantec, the number of infected computers is now at around 140,000, seeing a decline of over 460,000 since April 9th. Still, the security outfit remains puzzled by the fact, as it expected the digits to be somewhere near the 99,000 mark by now. Perhaps this is due to some folks not even being aware of Flashback's existence, or maybe not checking for software updates as often as most of us. Either way, we hope you've already used one of the tools Apple handed you.

'American Idol' Top Seven Sing Hits From 'Now And Then'

Jessica Sanchez gives 'otherworldly' performance after near elimination last week and Hollie Cavanagh finally 'ruffled her feathers.'
By Adam Graham

Jessica Sanchez on "American Idol"
Photo: Fox

"American Idol" opened Wednesday (April 18) with a recap of last week's Jessica Sanchez near-elimination drama, but before the show could get down to the business of the top seven (round two), host Ryan Seacrest paid tribute to television legend and his mentor Dick Clark, who died Wednesday at age 82.

"Now we can't begin tonight's show without acknowledging the passing of a television pioneer and my dear friend, Dick Clark," said a somber Seacrest. "Without Dick, a show like this would not exist. He will be missed greatly; our thoughts and our prayers go out to his family. I know he's in a better place saying, 'Hey, let's get on with the show, OK?' You got it, boss."

The contestants sang two songs each, the first a #1 hit from 2000 to today, the second an old-school soul classic. After nearly being booted last week, Sanchez fought back on the "Idol" stage, first with Alicia Keys' "Fallin' " and later with a spunky version of Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness."

"Your talent is so otherworldly to me," Randy Jackson told Sanchez — or was it BB Chez? — after "Fallin'." "I don't even know if you know how good you really are, and how even greater you can be. I love it." Following "Tenderness," the judges praised her ability to connect emotionally to songs, and urged her to push it even further going forward.

Joshua Ledet, who for the first time last week landed in the bottom three, also came back strong, earning standing ovations from the judges for both his songs, first Fantasia's "I Believe" and later for Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come."

"You have stretched your voice to the limits of soul!" Steven Tyler beamed after "Change." Praising the restraint he showed early before building to a robust climax, Jennifer Lopez made a plea to viewers: "Please, America, don't send this boy home! Please!"

All around cool dude Phillip Phillips took on Usher's "U Got It Bad" early before tackling Wilson Pickett's "In the Midnight Hour" in the second half of the show. Lopez called "U Got It Bad" "sexy" while Tyler exclaimed, "no chump love, sucka!" — a comment we're still trying to decode. But overall, the feedback for Phillip Squared was positive. "You are Phillip Phillips and dude, you are the bomb!" said Jackson.

After receiving harsh criticism the past few weeks — or at least what passes for harsh criticism on this rather tame, gentle season of "Idol"— Hollie Cavanagh came back big on Wednesday, first by belting out Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," perhaps the biggest song any of the contestants took on all night, and later with "Son of a Preacher Man." "You finally came out of your shell and ruffled your feathers a little," Tyler told her, while Lopez told the 18-year-old Liverpudlian she showed a new composure in her performance.

Country-rock boot stomper Skylar Laine continued her hot streak, first with Lady Gaga's country-fried version of "Born This Way" and later with a down-home version of Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." "Every time you're on stage it's a party. It's the Skylar Laine Rock and Roll Country Party!" Jackson exclaimed, while Tyler said she's "like a wild horse that refused to be tamed." Lopez complimented Laine on the "spunkiness" of her performance.

Colton Dixon also got his Gaga on, doing a goth-lite version of "Bad Romance," even though the song technically never hit #1 in America (it peaked at #2 on Billboard's Hot 100). He later put an emo spin on Earth, Wind & Fire's "September," a performance that got him some negative feedback from the judges. "I think your voice is a lot more powerful than that song," Tyler told him, while Jackson said the song was out of his comfort zone. Dixon, who generally gets good marks from the judges, looked a bit surprised but took his dings in stride.

Elise Testone, who Jimmy Iovine snarked "has a vacation home in the bottom three," was also criticized for performing what the judges deemed an odd fit for her voice when she did Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On." Earlier, her version of Alicia Keys' "No One" gave Lopez her "first goosies of the night," while Tyler got a little weird when he told her, "You sang your little tushie off tonight, it was delish." Testone also revealed that back home her dog is sick and might not pull through, which could earn her some sympathy votes from the masses.

Since the judges' one and only save was used up last week, someone will be sent home Thursday, which is also set to feature performances by LMFAO and season 8 "Idol" champ Kris Allen.

What did you think of "Idol" Wednesday? Let us know in the comments!

Mother, Daughter Team Building A Health Food Chain - Business ...

Forbes:

Green Acres is now a medium sized organic and all natural foods store based on Barbara?s conviction that ?food is our best medicine.? Originally the store served as an alternative to weekly grocery shopping at the large supermarket chain right across the street. But overtime Green Acres has become a shopping destination as it expanded its product mix, including specialty foods, meats, a deli and baked goods?to about 10,000 SKUs, always sticking to the store mantra of no refined sugars, pesticides, chemical preservatives, or hydrogenated oils. The vitamin and supplement business, which now includes a house brand, accounts for about one-third of revenues.

Barbara Hoffmann attributes the success of Green Acres to its basic product integrity along with its heavy emphasis on customer education and community outreach. Both Green Acres stores host regular product demos and cooking classes. In addition, the Wichita stores provides live music on weekends, hosts a farmer?s market every Saturday to highlight local produce; it also produces several large events featuring nationally known health experts, for which it has to rent space in nearby hotels to accommodate the hundreds of customers who show up. For an upcoming 18th anniversary celebration Barbara estimates they will have 1000 people come through the store?in a metropolitan community of just over 600,000!

By Ree Hines

"The Voice" mentors showed no mercy on Monday night when a new twist required two of them to send players packing in an instant elimination.

On Tuesday morning, Jesse and Jordis stopped TODAY to talk about their shocking exits and share their thoughts about their time on the show. See what they had to say in the clip above.

Which contestants will leave the competition next? Turn in to "The Voice" Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET on NBC to find out.

My mom recently found an old book called Dear Mother: Beautiful Writings of Praise, Love and Gratitude?and read a poem to me that reminded her of my son & me. I have to share it because it's such a sweet reminder to mothers of young children.

Her Little Shadows

by Martha Wadsworth

I saw a young mother?

With eyes full of laughter,?

And two little shadows

Came following after.?

Wherever she moved,?

They were always right there -?

Holding on to her skirts,?

Hanging on to her chair,?

Before her, behind her -?

An adhesive pair.?

"Don't you ever get weary

As day after day

Your two little tagalongs

Get in your way?"

She smiled as she shook?

Her pretty young head,?

And I'll always remember?

The words that she said:?

"It's good to have shadows

That run when you run,?

That laugh when you're happy?

And hum when you hum -?

For you only have shadows

When your life's filled with sun!"

Now that my son is crawling, he literally follows me around the house. It's so endearing but every once in a while if I really need to get something done, it can get a little frustrating. In those moments I try to remember this sweet little poem and be grateful for this precious phase of my life. I know that one day, when he's all grown up, my heart will long to have him here again, following me around and sitting at my feet once more.
