Resolution Copper Mining along with the Queen Creek Coalition reached a milestone in negotiations which will provide climber access to areas on Resolution Copper property. The two organizations have been negotiating this agreement for close to eight years. id="1">

Resolution Copper is one of the only mining companies that has ever entered into such an agreement with a private climbing or outdoors group. The agreement will allow for access on spots located on Resolution Copper property in Queen Creek and around the Oak Flat Campgrounds. id="2">

Upon the introduction of the Resolution Copper Project and the proposed Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act, those who use the area for outdoor recreation such as rock climbing and hiking were concerned that these unique outdoor recreation areas would be off limits prior to and after the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange was approved. id="3">

The pact as it is agreed upon will allow rock climbing and hiking to continue on Resolution Copper Mining property for Queen Creek Coalition registrants and provides resources for future development to offset climbing opportunities lost to the development of the mine. id="4">

The agreement will continue to allow the use of popular access areas including The Pond and Alantis, which are on Resolution property and are not expected to be used in the mining operations. The agreement also provides funding for the Tempe-based Queen Creek Coalition to develop other access points or climbing areas outside of the mine zone to offset climbing and bouldering areas that may be inaccessible or lost upon the passage of the land exchange legislation. Current areas that are located on Tonto National Forest in the land exchange may be accessed through the agreement with the coalition as long as it is safe to access the climbing areas and as long as climbing it does not interfere with mining operations after the exchange is approved. This agreement does not affect those particular areas until the land exchange is approved in Congress. id="5">

The Queen Creek Coalition will be the single point of contact regarding rock climbing on Resolution Copper property. They will also be responsible for educating the public about rules of use for the property. Anyone who plans to use the area for climbing and bouldering will need to contact the Queen Creek Coalition for information on safe access routes, rules and registration. The coalition is also tasked with developing other climbing areas in the region such as areas in the Tam O?Shanter area and lower Apache Leap. id="6">

In a press release issued last week both RCM and QCC officials applauded the good working relationship they have achieved. id="7">

?We look forward to a long and constructive relationship with our climbing friends,? said Jon Cherry, project manager. id="8">

?We believe it?s a fair and reasonable long-term solution to a difficult and complex issue,? said Paul Diefenderfer, QCC Chairman. id="9">
